Fashion Enter – The Factory

Fashion Manufacture

Fashion Enter, an award-winning social enterprise, is an organisation dedicated to supporting fashion designers and the broader fashion industry in the UK. In 2010 they set up ‘The Factory’ to manufacture clothing in London as part of a trend to plug the gap in UK production created by the move to overseas manufacturers over previous years.

The Factory, based in North London, has a capacity of 10,000 garments per week and has grown steadily from its original capacity of 5,000 garments per week. It has an impressive list of customers, including ASOS, M&S, F&F among others.

To attract these major buyers the company had to ensure that their management systems were effective and would stand up to the most rigorous inspections from large company auditors.

Jenny Holloway, Fashion Enter’s CEO, asked Nigel to spend some time at The Factory to help the management team put in systems that would enable them to work efficiently and that would meet the exacting standards of the trade and ensure growth.

Output at the factory has grown rapidly since the early days and Jenny moved the business into larger premises within three years of opening. She has since expanded into the two neighbouring units to cater for a new training establishment (The Fashion Technology Academy and Tailoring Academy) and to expand production further. Nigel has been involved in every step of the business’s growth, including coaching the management team as new young managers come into the business. The systems that underpin the business’s success have drawn praise from a number of people.

Jenny and her organisation are passionate about UK fashion, she says: “More and more buyers are looking at sourcing in the UK again. New, up and coming, designers, start-ups and scale-ups, also need a healthy UK manufacturing base. At Fashion Enter we are offering high quality production at The Factory as well as sampling and short run production at our other facilities – The Fashion Studio and The Tailoring Academy. Nigel has been so helpful in making sure we do things the right way and meet all the criteria our demanding customers ask of us.”
